Tell us your experiences with heavy truck traffic in the Town of Shelburne

For many years, The Town of Shelburne has asked the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) for a truck by-pass for Provincial Highway 10 and 89. The Town of Shelburne will be attending the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in January, 2019. A delegation from Shelburne will be meeting with the Minister of Transportation (MTO) on January 28, 2019, to share and express concerns and ideas about the need for a truck by-pass.

To help us share your opinions with MTO about heavy truck traffic in our downtown and community we want to hear from you.

    TRAFFIC TRAFFIC!

by FM, over 5 years ago

I do think it would be a smart idea to re-route transports away from the town. surely there is a bypass option for this.

    Improve Downtown

by Cindy, over 5 years ago

To be able to improve the downtown core and attract businesses and people, then a buy pass for trucks is needed. Look at Aliston and Orangeville, they both have truck buy pass routes and they have a beautiful downtown area that people want to go to, to shop and they have businesses not empty stores.

    Too much traffic

by resident, over 5 years ago

Too many big trucks going through town.  Traffic is backed up for blocks depending on which direction you are going.  You can sometimes wait 2 changes of the traffic lights before you get through them.  A bypass would alleviate some of the problem.

Too Many Loud Trucks in Our Town

by lwyrgrl, over 5 years ago

I have lived in Shelburne for 13 years.

I live on Victoria street and I have noticed a great improvement since trucks were banned on our street.  Whenever one sneaks onto our road, however, I cringe at the loud engine noises, rumbling tires and shaking of our home's windows.

When walking downtown, the large trucks often splash pedestrians who happen to be walking near puddles.  They also create cold wind drafts and snowy blizzards as they storm by on main street.  They have loud brakes they apply at every stop light.

When driving downtown, there is always at least one... Continue reading

    Traffic

by Watermaven, over 5 years ago

Traffic in general is the issue not just truck traffic. Shelburne needs a bypass for all vehicles going north and south. It will only get worse.

    Keeps getting worse

by Boots, over 5 years ago

Trucks regularly blow reds in town and I’ve never seen one stopped. Define a truck route ASAP. Using county and township paved roads there are routes that could be used right now to take trucks around Shelburne not through it.

Noise, dirt and congestion not a way to welcome people downtown

by Hoshumus, over 5 years ago

Tired of the noise, traffic congestion and dirt from the trucks  at hwy 10 & 89 intersection.

We live in close proximity to this intersection and it seems like it's getting worse and worse.

No surprise that downtown is deserted who would want to walk beside a convoy of trucks?

Heavy Truck traffic is a potential for tragedy

by Louise Marcoux Phillips, over 5 years ago

I have lived and worked in Shelburne over the last 40 years and the increasing number of heavy trucks and equipment moving through Shelburne is a recipe for tragedy. With only one set of light at the main intersection of Main St. and Owen Sound St. the sheer volume of traffic should be considered a risk. The noise is deafening and the pollution that these trucks create should be a big factor in making a decision on a by-pass. I have witnessed innumerable times people running across the streets just ahead of big trucks making a turn. There are a... Continue reading
